Microsoft Presentation
I was very impressed by the Microsoft presentation. Over the last 6 years or so, I've shied away from Microsoft products, opting for open source solutions from Mozilla and Open Office. I've been converted. It was interesting learning about the new Outlook 2010 Social Connector tools that help make social media integration easier.
Romany Thresher Presentation
Having been involved in some online PR, Seach Engine Optimization (SEO) and content management in the past, I've been doing a lot of self-research into aspects of social media and it's relationship with marketing. It was good to have a relatively "geek-speak" free presentation. It helped provide a clear picture of the way forward in the highly competitive social media sphere. The added value presented by the offer of ongoing support was refreshing. It's become an all-too-rare occurence in today's business climate. I aim to make use of it and the support provided by the Better Networking online community - and provide my own input where possible. I believe there are problems in the world that can only be solved by working together with other people - across cultures, nationalities and industries. The Better Networking community is a step in the right direction
Breakaway session with Warwick Smith-Chandler
Warwick is an exellent speaker and drove home some valuable points about the use of the social media space in my industry. I've been working through what he advised and will be putting a plan into place very soon. I'm positive I'll see very good results in the months to come. Thank you to you and Farzaana for providing me with a netbook to use. After my laptop was stolen from my office last Thursday I was sure I couldn't attend the course. When I spoke to her she immediately offered to help with no hesitation if I cound't find a replacement somewhere else. Selfless acts like that speaks such volumes about the service you provide. Thank you so much.

“There has been so much hype surrounding Social Media of late and I have been wondering how to use this “new” phenomenon to grow my businesses. Then the Social Media 4 Entrepreneurs Workshop hosted by BizAssist.co.za came along. I decided to attend and find out how all this technology can help me. And, let me tell you what a huge difference it has made to my life.
Romany Thresher from Direct Assist really changed my life! Since the workshop (10 days ago) I have successfully created two Wordpress sites, been twittering along to so many new followers - 80 to be exact, and have learned so much about the world around me. I know now that Social Media can be used effectively to build valuable relationships with your clients and that it can be used as an effective tool to monitor your service and engage with your community. I am hooked! Thank you to BizAssist.co.za and Romany Thresher for showing me that Social Media can, indeed, turn my business into a success story!”

"Before attending the Social Media 4 Entrepreneurs Workshop, I thought that social media was having a Facebook page and that Twitter was for ‘Twits’ with nothing else to do! Thanks to Romany Thresher of Direct Assist Online and the BizAssist.co.za team, my perceptions have been changed and my eyes are wide open to the power of ‘true’ social media networking. I have realised that by using social media marketing correctly, I can change the way my customers shop and dramatically increase my ‘reach’. My shop front can now be visible to the world! I know that I have a long way to go before I fully understand social media but I’m confident that what I learned at this workshop has given me enough knowledge to get me started... the rest is up to me. Thanks for opening my eyes!"

"Attending the Social Media 4 Entrepreneurs Workshop in Cape Town hosted by BizAssist.co.za and led by Romany Thresher provided a comprehensive introduction to Social Media Networking.
I found the workshop to be well organized, providing laptop PCs and internet excess to attendants that didn’t have their own. This enabled everyone to participate and receive hands-on training on some of the topics which were covered. Copies of the presentation slides were provided which allowed for taking notes and extensive additional information was provided on useful resources on Social Media which will undoubtedly come in handy for future use. Romany skillfully and patiently guided the participants through the basic principles of setting up a blogspot. She also shared practical and useful tips of engaging with Twitter in productive and manageable ways. My insight and understanding of social media tools has definitely increased at the workshop and has prompted me to set up a fanpage for my business on on Facebook."
